Tips and Tricks to Keeping Your Home Clean
6. Cleaning your IronDirt and grime accumulates on the bottom of the iron over time, leaving unsightly streaks on the clothes you iron and doing more harm than good when you do your laundry. We have found that the easiest way to clean it is with salt. Yep, common household salt. All you have to do is pour a little salt on your ironing board (maybe on a pillowcase as well for easy cleanup), heat up the iron, then iron it. The dirt will stick to the salt and your iron will be grime free. - Make sure the steam option is off, wet salt doesn't work so well.
7. Hair Picker UpperPet hair (and human hair) can be a nuisance to clean out of carpets. Vacuums work if the hair isn't packed into the carpet. Try using the old squeegee to wipe that pet hair right off the floor. It will drag up the hair from within the carpet, making it easier to vacuum straight off of the ground. It's simple and doesn't take much effort. Although, that will depend on how much hair you have accumulated in the floor. - We love old usages for old items!
8. Vacuuming Cleaning TipYou have all the attachments imaginable with your vacuum or shopvac, but here is one more that can be more helpful than you think. Take the top of a squeeze bottle and use it on the end of your hose. The tip comes of a fine point and will allow you to vacuum in those small places. You will find it a lot easier to vacuum corners and other areas that collect dust! Try it on your keyboard or even the little nooks in the car. - Use a squeeze-ketchup bottle top with your vacuum to clean your keyboard, phone, microphone, or any electronic device.
9. Cleaning your PillowsDid you know that the yellowing on your pillow over time actually comes from sweat!? The staining isn't very attractive, and you may be discouraged by the fact that it may not come out in the wash. Time to throw away, and buy a new one... but not anymore. You can wash and whiten your pillows in the washing machine with this amazing solution...
For washable pillows (check the label), fill the machine about 1/3 full with HOT HOT water and add this solution:
10. Grout CleanerJust two ingredients can make your grout as good as new, baking soda and bleach. These two ingredients will work together to remove the caked-on dirt and grime from your grout's porous structure! Mix 3/4 cup of baking soda with 1/4 cup bleach until it becomes a paste. Apply it to the grout and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Using an old toothbrush or a scrub brush, scrub the grout until you're satisfied. Keep in mind that grout gets darker when wet, so if you're not completely satisfied, give a but to let the grout dry. - A clean shower and bathroom can help your home feel refreshed and clean.
